An industrial design protects how your product looks, not how it works. Syrian law protects the new and distinctive external shape of a product, whether industrial, professional or handmade. Where a patent covers the invention inside, a design registration covers the shape, configuration, pattern and ornamentation on the outside. Alazmeh registers drawings and industrial designs in Syria and builds portfolios that stop competitors copying the appearance of what you make.

Who should file
Manufacturers, product companies and designers whose products compete partly on how they look. File before you show the product publicly, and coordinate filings across markets to preserve priority.
What you need to submit
- The original power of attorney, duly legalized and authenticated, including authentication through the Syrian Consulate where applicable.
- Six color photographs of the design showing it from all dimensions.
- A description of the design and supporting drawings.
- Full applicant details.
- A certified copy of the priority document where priority is claimed, submissible within six months of the Syria filing (no consular legalization required for the priority certificate).
Registration and protection
- File the application with clear representations of the design.
- Examination and publication in the official journal.
- Registration on payment of the prescribed fees.
- Protection runs for an initial five years from filing, renewable for two further consecutive five-year periods — up to fifteen years in total.
